The fitness and exercise industry is one of vast diversity…

It is full of different modalities, intensities, durations, equipment and styles…

There really is something for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned pro, a beginner or somewhere in between.

So with so much choice and opportunity why do so many of us consistently fail to adhere to an exercise regime long term.

The answer…

You have to find something you really enjoy! It’s that simple. Honestly!

You have to choose a type of exercise or workout that YOU love, not one your friend pushed you into or one that a work colleague told you you’d love…YOU have to love it…

…because if you don’t enjoy your exercise regime you are waaayyyyyyy less likely to adhere to it.

I’ve really noticed this over the years…

I have totally different people coming to group PT that do fitness classes, who in turn are different to those who do 1:1 personal training, and that’s cool because everyone is different. But what is really great is that they’ve stuck with their exercise regime week after week, month after month and year after year because they’ve found what they love.

So here are my top tips to finding the workout that works for you:

1. Try lots of different things, from 30 minute body weight training classes to dance based activities, from outdoor activities to team sports…try working out on your own, in a group or with a trainer 1:1…give it all a shot (even if it means getting outside your comfort zone a little).

2. Remember that enjoyment can come in many different forms. It may be that you enjoy the process or the ‘during’ aspect of the workout or it may be the feeling of achievement you feel post workout that gets you hooked…pay attention to both!

3. Once you’ve found your thaannggg, of course there may be times when you think ‘oh maybe I’ll give it a miss tonight’ or ‘I’ll skip this week and start back next week’…we are all human-this happens. At times like these, the trick is to remind yourself WHY you attend and WHY you love your exercise of choice. Do this and you’ll be lacing up those trainers and heading to your workout in no time.

Some inspiration for new things to try…

Me and some of my team KBC clients recently tried Dodgeball

Dancing with glow sticks in the dark with amazing tunes blasting is always fun and burns stacks of calories too!

Why not try working out in the sunshine (when we get some)!

Or take up running, jogging or power walking and train towards an event such as Race For Life?

The bottom line is consistency equals results and if you can find something you enjoy you and more likely to do it consistently!

I’d really like to hear which types of workout/exercise you love, so please tweet me @KatieBulmer1 and let me know!

Have a top day!
