Welcome the Performance Roller!

In recent years foam rolling has firming cemented itself into the fitness industry with so many people reaping the benefits, and as more people get on board with the method, the variations of the product have developed greatly.

I remember my first foam rolling experience as a gym-based PT back in 2007, when I foam roller was exactly that, a piece of smooth foam in the shape of a rolling pin. Fast forward to 2017, it’s no longer a tool used only by PTs. In fact it’s a firm fixture in many homes, gyms, studios and sports clubs and the product has come along way in terms of design and function too.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been using the new Performance Roller by Physical Company.

First impressions, it looks super cool, and kind of like the Terminators arm!

Then I got down to business…using it on my nemesis, my quads and hamstrings. As a regular pavement pounder they are always tight.

OMG…this roller goes deep. It’s patterned design creates deeper channels which means better muscle penetration and therefore better release. Despite the faces I pulled, I stood up and felt like my legs were brand new.

Now for the geeky part which I don’t think many people will consider until it’s highlighted to them…

Other rollers I’ve used over the years have either got caught in my leggings, go ‘wonky’ if you don’t use it on a flat surface (so if you’re half on the floor/half on a mat for example) or feeling ‘juddery’ and not very smooth as you roll them along the muscle…but not this one!

The Performance Roller’s ends are slightly raised resulting in a smooth rolling experience.

Not everyone knows exactly what they should be doing when it comes to foam rolling…

Where should you put it?

What movements should you do?

Well thanks to NFC technology, the built in chip allows you to hold you phone by the roller, and as if by magic up pops a range of videos to help you get it just right…it’s like having a foam roller and a PT in one!

Bottom line is, if you struggle with tight muscles, need help with recovery between sessions and want to experience the ultimate benefits of foam rolling…then you need it in your life. CLICK HERE for more info on the Performance Roller and a great vid!
