The term ‘body confidence’ is frequently in the press, and I’ve found that over the last 5 years especially, that I discuss the topic with more and more with my clients as it becomes more of a significant issue for more people.
But how do you go from self loathing to self loving? The answer…it’s not easy! Changing mindset is waaaay harder than changing your body, BUT here are some hints and tips that I’ve used with my clients that can really help…
Fake It Til You Make It
Confidence is a very attractive quality and if you love the way you look then so does everyone else.
It can take a while to ditch that negative mindset, so until you get there…fake it! Carry yourself with confidence and stop saying mean comments about yourself, whether that’s in your head and out load.
Have A Social Media Detox
Having a good old social scroll when when you’re feeling down on yourself is never a good idea. It often leads to comparing yourself to others, when in fact what you should be doing is running your own race and focusing on your own positives.
Always remember that the vast majority of people only share the best bits of their life and the best pics of themselves (many of which are edited) on social, which often leads to feeling the need to compare your own live, body etc to the best bits of others.
So if you really want to work on your body confidence, it’s time to unfollow the accounts that make you feel negative or even take a break from social media altogether.
Be Your Own Best Friend
That little voice in your head that whispers negative words needs to become your best friend rather that your worst enemy. Flip the negative self talk into positive, and rather than focusing on the things you don’t like about yourself, focus on the the things you do…however small they might be. Flip the negatives into positives and be kind to yourself.
Get Some Help
If you want to feel good about yourself, improve confidence and lift your mood, then exercise is a great way to do so. Choose a gym that feels inclusive, friendly and is about bringing out the best individuals. Personally, I love the gym where I workout and train my clients too…Everyone Active.
The gym and classes are super friendly and there is a real mix of ages, abilities and fitness levels…I’d definitely recommend checking them out.
